✖️ Augmented reality & music biz 👁️ UMG bets on hi-res streaming 🎶 Blockchain & VR converge 🔗
Years ago, Mike Masnick of Techdirt was one of the first people to let me publish to a big audience and start getting my ideas and my name out. He and his team do tremendously important work with their writing, but they’re now in trouble and Techdirt needs your help.
tl;dr: they’re being sued for defamation by the guy who didn’t invent email, and need donations for their EFF-supported legal battle. If you care about freedom of the press, please consider supporting. Thank you.

Hollywood has no idea what to do with VR
Exploring what’s next for audiovisual entertainment. Most importantly, I think we need to develop new formats. Translating today’s movies to VR, is like making a movie out of a theatre play… The risk is you let yourself be restricted by constraints of the old medium, instead of optimally using the new medium and envisioning new ways to tell stories.

Interesting read about the ‘Metaverse’ - the concept that we’re going to spend a majority of our time in virtual environments that will become just as important as our other reality. The author argues that important data like transactions and identity in the Metaverse needs to be auditable by its 'citizens’ or participants and blockchain offers a way to build the underpinnings for that.
